The Funniest Medical Staffing Requests We’ve Ever Received

At Hero Care, we’ve seen it all when it comes to medical staffing. From urgent last-minute needs to hyper-specific job requests, the world of healthcare staffing is anything but predictable. But every once in a while, a request comes in that makes us do a double-take, laugh, and then question how we got here.

Of course, we take every staffing request seriously—because patient care is no joke. But some of these requests? Well, let’s just say they deserve a moment in the spotlight. Here are some of the funniest (yet completely real) medical staffing requests we’ve ever received.

1. "Need a Nurse… But Make It Fashion"

A clinic once asked for a nurse with “impeccable fashion sense” to fit in with their boutique medical spa’s aesthetic. Because, apparently, IV starts are more effective if they’re performed by someone wearing designer scrubs and perfectly coordinated accessories. While we appreciate a good uniform, we’re more focused on making sure our nurses are skilled and compassionate rather than runway-ready.

(But if Gucci ever starts making compression socks, we’d love to see it.)

2. "Can They Also Do Haircuts?"

A long-term care facility requested a nurse who could “trim hair in between med passes.” We get it—multitasking is a crucial skill in healthcare, but expecting someone to handle wound care AND give a decent fade is asking a bit much.

(Unless, of course, they have a side hustle as a barber. In that case, respect.)

3. "Preferably Over 6 Feet Tall"

A hospital specifically requested a tall nurse because “our cabinets are really high.” While we understand the logistical challenge, we kindly suggested they invest in a step stool rather than basing hiring decisions on someone’s wingspan.

(Fun fact: Height is not listed as a core competency in nursing school.)

4. "We Need a Nurse Who Can Handle Ghosts"

One facility—an older hospital with a bit of a reputation—asked if we had any “nurses experienced in dealing with paranormal activity.” Apparently, the night shift had reported some spooky encounters, and they wanted someone who wouldn’t be rattled by things going bump in the night.

While we couldn’t guarantee a ghostbuster, we did find them a seasoned night-shifter who’d seen enough weird stuff in their career that a floating clipboard wouldn’t faze them.

5. "A Nurse Who Can Also DJ"

A party-loving senior living community asked if we could find a nurse who also had DJ skills. Why? Because their weekly dance nights needed someone who could switch between charting vitals and dropping sick beats.

We almost sent them a DJ with CPR certification, but in the end, we found them a nurse who moonlighted as a wedding DJ. Win-win!

Conclusion: We Love a Good Challenge

At Hero Care, we pride ourselves on meeting our clients’ staffing needs—no matter how unusual they may be. While we can’t always promise a fashion-forward, 6-foot-tall, DJ nurse, we can promise compassionate, skilled professionals who are ready to take on whatever comes their way.
